Some Characteristics of ISA – Industry Standard Architecture Bus are described briefly below.

1. It is the most common type early expansion bus.
2. It was designed for use in original IBM PC.
3. IBM PC – XT used 8 bit bus
4. It runs at a clock speed 4.77 MHz in IBM PC.
5. Then IBM PC – XT improved the bus design, used 16 bits pf data at a time.
6. Now more improved AT bus provides 24 bits address lines which allowed 16 MB of memory.
