Analog to Digital Conversion – needs for A/D conversion
A/D conversion is a sampling from the perspective of Pattern Recognition which goal is to gather sensed data from samples and change it to digital representation that is amenable to further processing.
Need for A/D conversion
- From A/D conversion we get a continuous range of values and can store a finite amount of values in a finite number of bits (discrete values).
- To find a discrete representation such that the original analog signal can be accurately reconstructed.
- Sometimes in order to get better speeds we accept some minimal information loss (accuracy).
- To face the trade-offs of voice recording where you skip letters, digital images with aliasing effects and movies with blocky look.
